Leontine Linens, with corporate offices in Georgetown, Ky. and a flagship store in New Orleans, was featured in today’s Washington Post. Writer Terri Sapienza’s roundup of stylish skull-and-crossbones designs for the home included the company’s Jolly Roger motif, available in about 100 colors on bed linens (pictured above), towels and shower curtains.
“We are known for our monogram specialty, so it’s a departure for us,” said Leontine owner Jane Scott Hodges, a Kentucky native. “But we find it fun to fold in a motif that we think is universal. Monograms aren’t for everyone.”

One of the season’s freshest color palettes for nails and makeup are shiny mineral hues — sort of a chic industrialized look. While deep nail colors have ruled the past few years (OPI’s inky purple-black Lincoln Park after Dark is a cult fave) companies are now adding a silvers, golds and mattes to the mix. Essie even offers a “Matte to Go” topcoat that delivers a smooth shine-free finish to any color; available at www.essie.com.
But for the face, a little sheen looks best; not as harsh or dull looking. The new Bobbi Brown Chrome Collection will hit stores in November (at Macy’s in Lexington or www.bobbibrown.com). Shimmery colors for eyes include Thunder Metallic and Moonlight Sparkle while lips Chrome Pink Shimmer and Winter Bronze glitter. Pictured above is the Bobbi Brown Chrome Palette featuring 10 eye shadows and four lip shades, $75.

Elle Decor featured the gorgeous Lexington horse farm of designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka. Now the Wall Street Journal gives us a tour of the stylish couple’s midtown Manhattan apartment.
The designers downsized a few years ago since they were spending more time at their home in the Bluegrass. The sleek N.Y. pad, less than 1,000 square feet, features a neutral pallette and views of the city.

While I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece.
I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
