Isle of You is closing

July 1, 2009

Sad news about Isle of You. The cute, little boutique at 591 West Short Street is closing after almost 13 years in business.
“I’ve had a wonderful time down here on this corner,” owner Lori Houlihan wrote in an e-mail to friends recently. “The last few years have been quite a struggle though and I’ve run out of steam.”
The store, which has carried a stylish mix of clothing for woman and men including Custo Barcelona, Weston Wear and Project E, is still open for business, but Houlihan, has a goal to be out by the end of July.

That is sad news indeed. I’m sorry to hear it. I still kick around in my Paul Frank Pro-Keds from the Isle. Love ‘em, loved the store.

The Historic Western Suburbs is so sad to see you go Lori.

Harriett HendrenWhile I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
