August Vogue is here featuring Rachel Alexandra

At three years old, Rachel Alexandra has managed what many a fashion model spends a career trying to achieve - a two-page layout in the August Vogue magazine.
Back in June, following her win of the Kentucky Oaks and The Preakness, we told you about Rachel Alexandra’s photo shoot for Vogue.
Shot at Churchill Downs by celebrity photographer Steven Klein, the full-page photo features the filly standing against a plain white background, without a halter or lead, looking simply gorgeous. Look for the story and photo on pages 166 and 167 of the August Vogue.

While I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece.
I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.

Really wonderful to see Rachel Alexandra in the August Vogue. I errored and did not buy 2 copies before the Sept issue replaced Aug at my store. I’ll frame the Rachel picture and the story and put them in the Race Track Chaplaincy of American auction in November at the Breeders Cup in California (that RA will not run in). That auction funds a nondenominational national ministry at over 100 tracks including Churchhill Downs where you photographed Rachel. May I purchase Aug copies? (If they could be signed by the magazine editor, that would be a coup but certainly not necessary.) Thanks so much for the focus on a wonderful filly. She is running against older males Sept 5, at Saratoga Race Track where fashion is still practiced……..following her would make interesting reading and potentially wonderful photography - like the Oklahoma Track at 6:00 AM in the fog. Saratoga is a very special place in racing and RA is housed there now. Three year old fillies never run against older males and she should crush them!!!
