October 15, 2009

The fashion and art of Georgetown artist Jamie Kuli McIntosh is showcased in “Recycled Wearables,” an exhibit at The Gallery at the Winchester Opera House, 101 South Main Street, Winchester. It’s on view through Oct. 31. That’s one of her creations above, an elegant ballgown fashioned from blue plastic.
McIntosh, a graduate of Transylvania University, is a textile and fiber artist who creates “art clothing” from castoff materials, including dryer sheets, upholstery, plastic sheets and cat food bags.
An opening reception is 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. The gallery will host a fashion show of McIntosh’s designs  6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 23.

Harriett HendrenWhile I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
