Keeneland Gift Shop Holiday Wonderland starts Wednesday

November 21, 2011

The Keeneland Gift Shop  Holiday Wonderland event is  Wednesday through Sunday at the Keeneland Entertainment Center, 4201 Versailles Road.  Hours are 9 a.m. to 5  p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m.  Sunday; closed Thanksgiving Day.

The event will feature unique gifts and decorations;  gourmet items  including  specialty sauces,  condiments, marinades with samplings available; savings on luxury brands including Barbour, Longchamp, Patagonia and Vineyard Vines; free personalization on ornaments and other merchandise purchased during the event; a book signing by Elizabeth Stoll, author of  “Lafayette Slept Here”;  and a Bluegrass Cooking Clinic by Barbara Harper-Bach.

During the Holiday Wonderland the Keeneland Gift Shop is teaming up with Kentucky Children’s Hospital for its Trim a Tree fund-raiser where  shoppers purchase plain ornaments for $5 each. The ornaments are then donated to patients at Kentucky Children’s Hospital who will decorate them and hang them on the hospital’s trees. Proceeds from the ornaments will go  to Kentucky Children’s Hospital.

Harriett HendrenWhile I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
