Celebrate with Skirt on Friday

Skirt magazine will host a Fashion Challenge Gallery Hop & Shop 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Fayette Mall featuring shopping specials at mall stores, Skirt swag bags, refreshments, and styles from the magazine’s Fashion Challenge Contest.
Starting last April, Skirt, which is published partly by the Herald-Leader, asked readers to create clothes and accessories from the pages of Skirt! and the Herald-Leader.
Friday, you’ll see the amazing entries: hats, jewelry, swimsuits, dresses and, of course, skirts, modeled by dancers of the Kentucky Ballet Theatre. A grand prize winner will be announced, and a portion of the contest’s entry fees will be presented to the Ball-Quantrell Jones Recovery Center for Women.

While I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece.
