One-of-a-kind shell ornaments by Ron Meece at Belle Maison

December 8, 2011

Landscape designer Jon Carloftis decked out the Old Governor’s Mansion in Frankfort for the holidays this year with a host of live trees, Kentucky-crafted decor and shell ornaments by Lexington artist Ron Meece. Meece transforms mirrors, boxes, picture frames and more, into works of art by covering them in seashells. Meece’s one-of-a-kind shell ornaments in a variety of styles, including the one above, are available for $39.99 at Belle Maison Antiques, 525 West Short Street. For more info, call (859) 252-9030 or go to Bellemaisonantiques.com.

Harriett HendrenWhile I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
