Cartoons for grown-ups spark cosmetic sales
January 27, 2012
The New York Times posted a story this week about cartoon characters and women’s cosmetics and how companies like MAC have had big sales with collections sporting images of Wonder Woman and Hello Kitty.
Now Pixie makeup creator Petra Strand has teamed with Walt Disney to design a limited-edition PixiGlow collection available at Target.com starting Jan. 29 and at Target stores in March. For the collection inspired by Tinker Bell, Strand worked with Disney character artist John Quinn to create a vintage-style fairy on packaging for item that range from $8 to $34.
The Fairy Face Palette (above, $34) includes five eye shadows, blush, five lip creams and applicators.

While I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece.
I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
