Lexington man a model finalist

Every Man Jack, the line of men’s grooming products, is holding a contest to find a new face of the brand, and Charles Matthews (above) of Lexington is one of the four finalists.
The Russellville native and University of Kentucky grad is in Las Vegas this weekend for the finals of the contest. Matthews, who uses the products, said he found out about the contest when he went to the company’s Web site. The grand prize winner will be announced in the December-January issue of Men’s Journal magazine.
All finalists get free Every Man Jack products for a year.
To get this far, Matthews survived two rounds of online voting. For the win, he’s up against guys from Minnesota, Maine and California.
For Matthews’ contest profile, go to Everymanjack.com/wanted/finalists.
Every man Jack is sold at Target, some Walgreen’s stores and Drugstore.com.

Green thumbs can bleed blue

College football season is here, and with Kentucky playing Louisville on Saturday, it’s nice to know that you can show your support for the Wildcats in the garden as well as at the game.
Lexington-based Rooting Interest sells University of Kentucky planters at stores throughout the state. The company’s 16-inch lightweight fiberglass pot (pictured above, about $50) is just the right size for fall mums, and the bright blue color with a white UK logo will make it a winner with Wildcat fans.

Your server: Harriett Hendren

Harriett HendrenWhile I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
