If the upcoming Jan. 20 presidential inauguration has you thinking about how to mark that historical day, there are plenty of fashionable as well as undeniably odd Obama collectibles out there.

At Etsy, the online showcase for crafters, listings for Obama-related creations have ballooned in recent weeks to include everything from election-button earrings to a $39.99 carved Rhea egg portrait of the president elect. “The Rhea is the South American cousin to the Ostrich,” the online description explains, “and the egg is about 6 inches tall.”

The official Presidential Inauguration Committee offers stylish dinnerware, posters, clothing and more. Political accessories include trendy totes by designers Tory Burch ($70, above) and Diane Von Furstenberg and tees by fashion stars Narciso Rodriguez and Derek Lam, among others.

If you’ve had enough of winter whites and charcoals, Bobbi Brown is introducing the Bobbi Brights Collection of springy colors scheduled to hit stores in January.

Among the offerings is the Bobbi Brights Palette with 35 matte shadows — pinks and blues, greens and purples — gathered all together in a sleek case with a full-size mirror. The price is $70.

There’s no shortage of ideas for inaugural fashions for Michelle Obama. WWD asked designers how they would dress the future first lady and received dozens of sketches. Among the styles are several cute frocks for Obama daughters, Malia and Sasha.

Young mothers of the New Leaf Project create ornaments ($12) and learn financial independence.

The New Leaf Project, a job-training program at the Division of Family Services/Family Care Center, teaches young mothers self-reliance and economic self-sufficiency through a crafts business while working toward a high school diploma or GED.
Participants have created two styles of Christmas ornaments. There’s an “antique” tree ornament made of old newspapers with a glittery gold finish, topped with a Dresden star. The second is a modern-style tree made of bold, colorful magazine pages and ­wrapping paper.
Ornaments are $12 and are available at Third Street Stuff, 257 North Limestone. The group is working on adding more locations along with online sources.
