Developing a taste for TokyoMilk

During a trip to Charleston, S.C., last week, I discovered Lily, a cute little shop at 196 King Street. Kevin Isler, who owns the shop with wife Lin, was great about suggesting where to eat and shop in the city: Stick to Upper King for unique boutiques. Lily carries loads of gorgeous soaps, photographs and a new line of adorable cards and yummy fragrances from Margot Elena called TokyoMilk.

Although I would love to magically transport myself to Charleston whenever the shopping mood strikes, I did a bit of research for TokyoMilk products and found them at beautyhabit.com and anthropologie.com. Plus Terri Wood of Coffee Times tells me they carry 10 of the TokyoMilk scents plus a green iced tea lip balm at their store at 2571 Regency Road.

Gotta have a skinny belt

Each season, there’s one item I think I have to own, the essential piece to update the clothes I already have that can be worn with all kinds of outfits.
This year, I’m searching for the perfect skinny belt, maybe something in a faux snakeskin or animal-print calf-hair. Maybe mix it up over a fitted jacket or with a long loose tee, a sweater or jeans. Some of my favorites are pictured above. From top to bottom: metallic Chloe belt with a shirt-waist dress ($77 at shopbop.com), navy faux croc from Lands’ End ($29.50, also available in gold and green as well as basic black) and a studded slim style from Anthropologie, $24.
Do you have ideas for a must-have piece? Share them with me in the comments section of the blog.

Your server: Harriett Hendren

Harriett HendrenWhile I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
