Museum pieces on the block
The Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation will host a De-accessioned Furniture Auction at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hunt-Morgan House, 201 North Mill Street. Proceeds will benefit ongoing and upcoming projects at the house.
Most items originally were bought to fill spaces or were removed from the house as the museum developed. Pieces include eight mahogany Hepplewhite dining chairs, a three-panel Greek Revival mantel (circa 1840-1850), a four-poster Victorian bed with pineapple carvings, a mahogany, Sheraton-style sofa (top photo), and a Kentucky cabinet with glass doors (bottom photo).
The public may preview the items from noon to 4 p.m. Monday at the Hunt-Morgan House. Photos of the furniture may bee seen at Bluegrasstrust.org.

While I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece.
I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
