South Limestone merchants throw a block party

What started as an art event Saturday at Zag’s Boutique and Gallery on South Limestone has become a full-blown block party.
Zag’s neighbors decided to chip in with their own special activities, making Saturday a “support South Limestone event,” said Julia Rumrock, the gallery’s event organizer. “It’s all to promote the small businesses.”
The idea: to show that, despite current road construction, South Limestone is still a lively destination.
The party is 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday.
The show at Zag’s, 222 South Limestone, will feature works from artists including Paula Zaglul and Derrick Riley, live screen printing by Cricket Press and music by Ben Lacey.
Failte, the Irish import store at 203 South Limestone, will have an Irish band. Soundbar lounge, 208 South Limestone, will offer drinks. Hanna’s on Lime, 214 South Limestone, will serve party-goers; and Bombay Brazier, at Limestone and High Street, will offer henna tattoos.

Harriett HendrenWhile I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
