Open house and big accolades

This is the perfect weekend to get in your car and go boutique-hopping for open houses. There is sure to be more celebrations at retailers in the coming weeks, but these are the first fun excuses to visit shops you’ve never been in or to see new holiday offerings at your favorite stores. One of the stops to make in Lexington is Finderskeepers Market, 109 Walton Avenue, where co-owner James Snowden just had the huge honor of being named one of the top 20 — that’s top 20 in the world — interior-design bloggers by the British newspaper The Telegraph. That’s nothing to sneeze at considering other names on the list include design king Jonathan Adler and online design mag Lonny, which has a cult following (very Domino magazine-like).
Snowden’s blog is called The New Victorian Ruralist, and it’s filled with wonderful images of homes and stores and items that will just inspire you.
Congratulate Snowden when you visit the store’s open house, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. There’s another open house at Finderskeepers on Dec. 3, but I’ll remind you of that when it’s closer to the date.

Your server: Harriett Hendren

Harriett HendrenWhile I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
