Look good, greeting a new year

Those seeking a bit of style inspiration for New Year’s Eve parties need look no further than actress Jessica Chastain in a photo on the cover of January’s W magazine inspired by the 1983 movie Scarface.

Chastain, nominated for a Golden Globe for best actress for the movie Zero Dark Thirty, channels ’80s Michelle Pfeiffer in a Versace leather-detail silk gown and an 18-karat yellow gold and diamond wrap bracelet by Marina B.
For your own chic holiday look, think shimmering eyelids, a sleek bob and gold-colored cuffs along with a dress glittering with metallic accents or beads.
Zero Dark Thirty, about the hunt for Osama bin Laden, is in limited release and scheduled to open nationwide Jan. 11.

Harriett HendrenWhile I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
