Painted Peruvian furniture and rooftop garden by Jon Carloftis at L.V. Harkness
Thursday I paid a visit to L.V. Harkness, 531 West Short Street, for a preview of the Sandra Jordan Collection and a rooftop garden created by Jon Carloftis. The store hosted a little get-together later that evening with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails.
Jordan’s collection of Peruvian furniture includes a wood bench (top) and corner armoire (above) featuring gorgeous painted details. Prices are available at the store’s Web site.
On the rooftop is a garden retreat created by designer Jon Carloftis. He started the project in the spring and recently added the pergola (pictured above) with elegant light fixture.

While I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece.
I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
