The Morris Book Shop’s fourth-anniversary celebration is 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at 882 East High Street. Everything will be 20 percent off. CD Central at 377 South Limestone will celebrate Record Store Day on Saturday with live music starting at noon with performances by Satellite Giant, Bleats, Joan Shelley, Those Crosstown Rivals, Elsinores and Oh My Me.
Also, a pop-up Kentucky for Kentucky shop will sell T-shirts, posters and more. Pictured above is a poster by Cricket Press, $20.

The Lexington Rescue Mission’s Bazaar and Gathering Place will celebrate its grand opening Saturday.
The Bazaar, at 1720 Bryan Avenue, carries works from local artists including Melissa Oesch, who creates reusable journals from recycled materials (the above photo shows a design made from a recycled coffee bag, $25), and Kathy Werking, owner of SoapWerks bath and body products. All proceeds will go to the artists and to help the homeless in Lexington.

While I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece.
I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
