Lexington bags an Ariat tote

Ariat International, known for its equestrian riding apparel and footwear and a brand that became particularly visible in Lexington during the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, is introducing a limited-edition handbag collection. One of the designs is named after our own fair city.
Created by New York-based designer Sarah Blaustein of Sarah Hearey designs, styles feature Italian calfskin leather and hardware inspired by turn-of-the-last-century horse bridles.
The six bags are named for locations and people known for their horses, including the stylish Lexington magazine tote, $995, named for the Horse Capital of the World. The elegant design is available in chestnut and black leather or a lighter palomino hue accented with red.
Other designs include the Pelham cross-body bag, the Bexley tote, the Del Mar bucket bag, the Santa Fe hobo fringe and the Georgina satchel.
The purses will be available at select English equestrian events through retail partners and in early September at Ariat.com. Prices range from $395 to $1,295.

Harriett HendrenWhile I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece. I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
