It’s grand-opening week for Bluetique, a women’s clothing and accessory store near the University of Kentucky campus.
The store — at 235 Woodland Avenue, in the former Helen’s Boutique and General Eccentric space — is offering camis for $9.99 and leggings for $12.99 during its first week. I popped in Wednesday evening for a special reception at the store and it looked great — lots of fun affordable jewelry and clothing assembled by Elizabeth Shipley of Worlds Apart who has a great eye for what’s stylish right now. And “affordable” is key at this boutique which is sure to lure UK students, or anyone for that matter, looking for bargains but clothes and accessories that still look great.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Call (859) 309-1310.

While I grew up in small-town Kentucky I’ve always been fascinated with the cosmopolitan world of high fashion. On the other hand, I love a bargain and the thrill of shopping for just the right piece.
I have a degree in English from the University of Kentucky, and since 2002 I’ve written a column for the Lexington Herald-Leader about shopping, beauty and fashion. During that time I’ve interviewed everyone from designers to boutique owners about trends and style. And I’m still forever searching for the next big sale.
